Carle Hessay: Abandoned Village

On his prospecting trips, Carle often came upon the remains of such settlements in the wilderness regions of British Columbia’s interior. Here a tragic sense of sadness pervades this scene. “In a strange way the many denuded posts bear some resemblance to primitive totem poles, pointing with desperate and heroic gesture to the molten sky.
